Bar De Ligne 3.20 Musselburgh

You normally need an 11ft rod to catch a seabass, but hopefully today you'll just need a few quid to profit from the ugly, dorsal-finned swimmer.

While Google let me down when trying to find out if you could catch the distinctive fish off the coast of Musselburgh, it did at least come up trumps when looking for the translation of Bar De Ligne, as you can tell.

But there's nothing fishy about his chance today.

He's only ever won one handicap and that was over hurdles off a mark of 128, but considering that the assessor has given him a real chance this afternoon after dropping him a further 2lb for a good effort last time.

That was at Musselburgh when he ran a close third behind talented duo Mr Moonshine and Viva Colonia on softer ground than ideal.

It's unlikely there's anything of the calibre of that pair in the field today, and the better ground combined with his slide in the weights to 122 can help him to his first handicap success over fences.

Top-class assistance from the saddle is going to help as well, with AP McCoy booked on the horse for the first time.

He has a terrific strike-rate for Steve Gollings, winning eight times from 20 runners for the trainer in the last five years, including three from six this campaign.

Clearly, Gollings calls for the champ when he fancies one.

Though Bar De Ligne is unlikely to scale great heights in the future, today could be his day and any prices around 3/1 should be reeled in.
