Nic Doggett believes Emma Lavelle's Fox Appeal can provide some Black Eye Friday joy with a win at Ascot.

Tip of the Day: Fox Appeal 2.35 Ascot

I don't want to dampen the mood before Christmas, but after some Inspector Clouseau-esque investigation this morning, I discovered that the phrase "third time lucky" refers to hanging.

Apparently if you survived three attempts at hanging then the rumour was that you would be set free.

The obvious questions that spring to mind are:

a) How many survived three hangings?

and

b) If the answer to a is more than none, who was doing the hanging? The Chuckle Brothers?

Anyway, I digress.

The reason for that diatribe is that I believe Fox Appeal will make it third time lucky over fences this afternoon.

Emma Lavelle's charge runs in the novices' chase at 1435.

He chased home Black Thunder (has won twice since) on debut at Fontwell and then looked to have the beating of Wonderful Charm (Grade Two winner since) at Huntingdon.

However his rival rallied strongly close home and subsequently he went down by an honourable length.

He loves soft ground, will relish the slight drop in trip, and looks a fine wager for the final Friday before Christmas.

Win money, buy presents, eat turkey. That's all I want for Christmas, Mariah.
