And the bookies feel that if they do so - and take a 2-0 lead in the series in the process - there will be no coming back for England.

England resumed day three on 35/1 but they collapsed from 111/3 to 117/7 as Mitchell Johnson blew the tourists' middle order away.

The in-form paceman finished with figures of 7/40 as England were dismissed for 172, fully 398 runs behind the home side.

Michael Clarke declined the chance to enforce the follow-on and at stumps Australia were 132/3, stretching their lead to 530.

With two days left to play, things are looking ominous for Alastair Cook's side who are wdiely available at 66/1 to record an unlikely victory.

Australia are 1/8 at several firms, including Sky Bet and Stan James. The draw is a 13/2 chance at bet365 and Winner.

In the series betting, the Aussies are a best of 1/7 (bet365) to regain the famous urn, having started the series around the 7/4 mark. Given their Adelaide dominance so far, they now look set to go 2-0 up with three matches remaining.

A drawn series can be backed at 15/2 (BetVictor, Unibet, 888sport) with England out at 25/1 (general).
