The New One is the new favourite for the 2014 Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in places after a sparkling win at Kempton Park.

Some firms cut the horse as low as 7/2 for next March's race after the victory.

Several were prepared to offer 5/1 though, including William Hill, who make Nigel Twiston-Davies' star hurdler as co-favourite alongside Hurricane Fly and Our Conor.

Meanwhile, Kempton runner-up Rock On Ruby has been pushed out to a best of 25/1 in the same market.

Hill's spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said: "What a stunning performance from The New One and a great way to kick off the season at Kempton Park. It was a real treat for racegoers so early on in the jumps calendar."

Sky Bet reacted to the 10-length triumph by cutting The New One to 9/2.

Their Michael Shinners said: "Market vibes suggested that Rock On Ruby was expected to need this first run of the season and ground conditions were against him.

"However, it was hard not to be impressed with the manner of The New One's victory and he proved in no uncertain times that he has the pace to be competitive over the shorter trip of the Champion Hurdle."

Champion Hurdle sponsors Stan James went 4/1 from 7/1. Their spokesman Rory Jiwani said: "That was a visually impressive performance with The New One showing an electric turn of foot to stretch clear of the former Champion Hurdler.

"Any doubts that the Neptune winner might not have the pace for two miles were quickly dispelled."

Earlier, the Paul Nicholls-trained Dodging Bullets made a successful debut over fences at Kempton Park and he is now 25/1 with bet365, Sky Bet and Stan James for the Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Daryl Jacob guided the five-year-old - sent off the 8/11 favourite - to glory in the two-mile beginners' chase from Turn Over Sivola with the winner getting nicely on top in the closing stages after a blunder two out from the runner-up.

BetVictor have gone 20s on their opening show while Paddy Power make him 16/1.

Paddy Power and Hill's make Champagne Fever the current favourite at 7/1.
