Gold Trail - 4.00 Nottingham
Today's action isn't too bad, well compared to yesterday's anyway, but after the fireworks at Tattersalls last night plenty of people will still have their focus on a sales ring rather than Nottingham at 4.00 this afternoon.
They could be missing a trick.
Sheikh Mohammed certainly didn't miss Gold Trail when he went under the hammer as a yearling, paying 280,000 guineas for the son of Teofilio. He's unlikely to recoup all of that investment but I do think £9,703.50 - minus deductions - will return to the coffers after the 32Red Nursery Handicap.
Charlie Appleby's charge took a notable step forward from a pleasing Sandown debut to win at Haydock last time and looks ready for this stiff stamina test over nine furlongs.
He begins life in handicaps off 85 and it will be disappointing - and expensive for connections - if that rating does not go northwards in the next 12 months.
Volume makes the market after an impressive Newcastle win last time and is feared but Gold Trail, for a yard which had two winners yesterday, is a progressive colt who makes plenty of appeal at around 3/1 this morning.
