Goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Streller, after Oscar had put Chelsea in front, also saw the Swiss outfit end the Blues' 13-match unbeaten run at home in European competition.

Jose Mourinho's side are now 4/7 with Sky Bet to top Group E while Schalke, who beat Steaua Bucharest 3-0, are their nearest challengers at 2/1. Basel are 11/2.

Meanwhile Arsenal got their campaign off to a winning start and they are now 6/4 favourites to win Group F and 25/1 to lift the trophy.

Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey's second-half strikes proved the difference at the half-finished Stade Velodrome, where Marseille dominated for large periods of their 2-1 home defeat.

Napoli beat Borussia Dortmund in the other Group F match and both sides can now be backed at 2/1 with Sky Bet to top the standings. Marseille are now out to 16/1.

Meanwhile Celtic's hopes of reaching the knockout stages suffered an early blow as they were unfortunate to lose 2-0 at AC Milan.

In the overall tournament betting Barcelona are 4/1 second favourites after Lionel Messi netted a hat-trick in their 4-0 thrashing of Ajax while Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, who both won on Tuesday, are 7/2 and 5/1 respectively.

Manchester City and Manchester United both got their campaigns off to a flying start on Tuesday with wins over Plzen and Bayer Leverkusen and they are next in the betting at 12/1 and 14/1.
