Man On The Spot previews the Channel 4 races on day three of the Ladbrokes St Leger meeting at Doncaster.

Times Up: Fancied to land the Doncaster Cup

13.40 Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes

A couple of recent winners have come out of the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood. AMBIANCE finished third in this year's renewal with Sleeper King in close attendance and Reroute well beaten. There was cut in the ground on that occasion so Mick Channon's colt is expected to handle today's going and is just preferred to Wind Fire. The latter beat Excel's Beauty in a Listed race before finding a couple too good in the Lowther at York. Fast is progressive and will handle soft ground, though she still has something to prove at this level and Richard Hughes prefers the Richmond Stakes third Thunder Strike. Extortionist had an off-day in France last time but the Ascot Listed winner is not out of this back over the minimum trip.

14.10 Ladbrokes Mallard Stakes

Camborne has struggled to get his head in front since scoring at Ascot last year though he did finish ahead of a below-par Songcraft at Goodwood last month. The latter won a Listed race at York back in May but the other Godolphin representative, TENENBAUM, may prove better value. He hasn't raced since July but has every chance on last year's form in France and will relish any further cut in the ground. Tropical Beat remains in the handicapper's grip on recent evidence while the progressive Semeen steps up in class and distance after scoring at Newmarket. Pether's Moon and Shwaiman are three-year-olds who will also need to dig a bit deeper having been raised in the weights for recent victories.

14.40 Speedy Services Doncaster Cup

TIMES UP was at his best at this time last year and beat High Jinx in this with Repeater and Colour Vision further behind. Ed Dunlop's charge pointed to another bold bid in this year's renewal with a good effort in the Lonsdale Cup at York last time and gets the vote. High Jinx hasn't raced since May so Biographer looks a bigger threat on his earlier second over 2m in the Esher Stakes at Sandown where Chiberta King finished eight lengths behind in third. Desert Recluse and Mutual Regard are only handicappers with plenty to find in this company.

15.15 Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes

The last three winners have carried Godolphin's colours and it could be the same story in this year's renewal. IHTIMAL's ability to handle slow ground has to be taken on trust but she was the most impressive of the recent winners when landing the Sweet Solera at Newmarket by a cosy couple of lengths. Saeed Bin Suroor's filly is preferred to Majeyda, who just got the better of Qawaasem at Sandown in July before the latter finished ahead of Halljoy when runner-up in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. Lady Lara and Vivere look up against it but Lustrous may well have the ability to get involved at this level having won a maiden race at Sandown on her racecourse debut only last week.
