Venue - 3.35 Haydock
For many, Lady Cecil's best chance of the day comes at Salisbury where Joyeuse will be looking to give the Albany Stakes yet another boost when she tackles the Dick Poole Stakes. But over at Haydock, she saddles a colt with plenty of promise in the shape of Venue.
A product of Khalid Abdullah's incredibly successful breeding operation, this colt's pedigree screams Juddmonte as he is by Arlington Million winner Beat Hollow out of Warning and Commander In Chief's half-sister Shirley Valentine (who herself was placed in the Galtres Stakes).
Given his parentage, it is not surprising that Venue was given a low-key juvenile campaign as he was never going to make a precocious type. He made his belated debut as a two-year-old in a Wolverhampton maiden and was never at the races, running green before finishing seventh.
This season has been much more promising though and his two starts so far this term have resulted in victories at Salisbury and Haydock. The first was particularly impressive as it was over a trip short of his best and his style of running and pedigree certainly suggested that he'd be better over further.
He stepped up in trip to today's course and distance last time out and ran out a ready winner despite running green. Venue gave the distinct impression that there was plenty more to come that day and he can continue his climb up the ladder with another progressive performance at Haydock this afternoon.
