Caldercruix - 5.50 Southwell
Rather like the well known yeast extract product - the surface at Southwell is something either loved or hated - and the same applies whether you are a horse or a punter.
Tonight's offering isn't likely to live too long in the memory but the third race on the card is competititve enough and it can give an opportunity for Caldercruix to visit the winners' enclosure.
Admittedly its a concern that we haven't seen him for 47 days since a below par run at Ascot but James Evans did saddle a winner the other day so we know the stable are at least in some semblance of form.
There was plenty of money around for the six-year-old when he last appeared here in April and having won twice and placed a further time in his six visits to the track, that shouldn't have been a surprise.
Among the obvious dangers today include Fluctuation.
On the face of it his form really shouldn't be good enough but the winners have been flowing out of Ian Williams' stable over the last couple of days and he cannot be dismissed despite the drop in trip.
Flying Pickets is a six-times winner over C&D though he's largely been noted as at his best in plating contests while Kingscombe gets plenty of weight and he might just fancy it tonight having not shown little on turf since his victory here in May.
