Nadal avoided Andy Murray in the draw with the defending champion placed in the same half as Novak Djokovic - the pair could meet in the semi-finals.
Despite having some potentially tricky matches in the opening rounds, including Ryan Harrison first, Vasek Pospisil in round two and John Isner in the last 16, Nadal was duly cut across the board for a second title at Flushing Meadows. He won there back in 2010.
Both Sky Bet and Coral made Nadal, unbeaten in three hardcourt tournaments this season, their clear favourite following Thursday's draw.
youwin were, however, prepared to dangle a standout 12/5.
Several firms have Nadal and Djokovic as 2/1 joint favourites. Coral offer the best price about the Serb at 9/4.

Juan Martin Del Potro is next in the betting at 12/1 - he is seeded to meet Djokovic in the quarter-finals - while five-time champion Roger Federer is only fifth favourite at 15/1 (youwin).

In the women's title betting, Serena Williams is an odds-on favourite at a best price of 4/5 (Paddy Power).
Victoria Azarenka is 7/2 with Betway and youwin and it's 20/1 bar.
Caroline Wozniacki was a notable mover after landing in the weakest quarter of the draw. Sara Errani is the player seeded to make the semis in that section and the Dane, runner-up in New York back in 2009, was duly cut to a best of 66/1 (Ladbrokes) for the title.
