Lee Westwood is now 10/3 to win a Major, whilst bet365 have pushed out Tiger Woods from 9/4 to 11/4 to beat the total of 18 recorded by Jack Nicklaus after Phil Mickelson won the 2013 Open Championship.

Spokesman Steve Freeth said: "Mickelson was one of our worst results pre-Open with plenty of support for the American after he won the Scottish Open.

"But his late run up the rails meant he was a fair result on the in-play side of things.

"Westwood traded at odds-on during his final round but another chance has passed him by - will he get a better opportunity?"

Mickelson's victory left William Hill paying out a large six-figure sum - not to mention the fact that Tiger Woods, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood all placed.

After lying five shots off the pace overnight, Mickelson was 20/1 with Hills to claim an unlikely victory.

"Mickelson produced one of the greatest rounds in Open history to come from nowhere and secure a victory that had been very well backed pre-tournament," said spokesman Joe Crilly.

"We have had a tough result but at least Westwood and Tiger fell just short."

Woods is the 5/1 favourite to win the USPGA at Sky Bet with Mickelson 16/1 at Hills and BetVictor and Adam Scott 22s (Coral).

Looking ahead to Royal Liverpool next year, Mickelson is 14s with BetVictor and Stan James to retain his title but 20/1 at Hills.

Woods heads the market on 5/1 at Hills but is on offer at twice that price with Stan James and BetVictor.

There was £25,203 traded on Mickelson on Betfair at 32 while £94 was traded at 50 - £22,090,795 was matched on the winner market overall, with £4,787,965 Mickelson.

Westwood hit a low of 1.92, Scott a low of 2.44 and Woods a low of 2.5.
