James Doyle has won many admirers over the past 12 months and he can cement his reputation as one of the best young jockeys around by steering Ajmany to success in the Handicap at Nottingham this afternoon.

James Doyle: rides Ajmany

Ajmany - 4.45 Nottingham

Luca Cumani's three-year-old has run two very promising races this season and has been found a good opportunity to record the second victory of his career in a contest that shouldn't take much winning.

Ajmany made his seasonal reappearance at Ascot where he finished a fine third in first-time blinkers. He had been gelded over the winter and this looked an improved performance.

He then ran in a red-hot handicap at Doncaster last time out that was won by subsequent Royal Ascot winner Remote. Although he could only finish sixth, the second and fourth that day have come out and won since while the third-placed horse, Matrooh, ran a very good race in a strong handicap at Newmarket's July meeting.

The danger is likely to be Light Rose who is still unexposed enough to warrant respect.

She hasn't won since her successful debut at Warwick and has to bounce back from a disappointing run last time out but could pose a threat if nabbing an early lead.

Stellar Express has won three times over course and distance and has to be respected after her victory at Chester last week as does Flying Applause who has also won on numerous occasions at Colwick Park.

However, our selection could just prove to be a cut above his rivals here given that he faces nothing of the calibre of horse he encountered at Doncaster last time out.
