Aidan O'Brien's star produced what bookies described as a "workmanlike" performance to win the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial from Loch Garman.
The victory landed a gamble with the horse having been backed down to 2/13 come the off.
William Hill saw no reason to cut their price and remained at a standout 11/2 about the colt's chances of winning at Epsom on June 1.
Sky Bet's Ken Dickson, whose firm were unchanged at 5/1, said: "Battle Of Marengo produced a workmanlike performance to win at very cramped odds.
"We expected a bit better although he is likely to be seen in a better light over further. He is sure to be given a true test of stamina at Epsom as they look to expose any weaknesses in Dawn Approach."
However, some firms, including BetVictor, saw fit to trim their price.
BetVictor, who also described the win as "workmanlike", went 9/2 from 5/1. Boylesports and Stan James are 4/1 from 5s.
Stan James spokesman Joseph Burke said: "There are no stamina doubts regarding Battle of Marengo whatsoever and he appears to possess just the right combination of speed and staying power to win a Derby.''
Some firms saw fit to cut 2000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach but most left their price at 7/4.
The next market change is likely to come on Thursday when Telescope, currently a best of 6/1 for the Epsom Classic, runs at York in the Dante Stakes.
