Bright Strike 4.20 Kempton
The 4.20 at Kempton is a competitive enough heat with a number of the leading yards represented and no fewer than four last time out winners from just nine runners.
Intrigo heads the market for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes and the hat-trick seeking colt is on an obvious upward curve but does have a 17lb higher mark to cope with than when first successful.
His initial mark was such that he may well still prove to be competitive from his revised perch but Bright Strike also appears to have plenty of scope for improvement from his opening rating.
A Dewhurst and Racing Post Trophy entrant last season, the son of Smart Strike fell a long way short of those lofty entries in three juvenile starts with his tendency to pull for his head hampering his ability to run up to his full potential.
That's not to say that he ran badly as a close up third to the highly regarded Wentworth at York is perfectly respectable form as is his second to the equally well regarded Race And Status at Newbury.
He converted a penalty kick on his seasonal reappearance to prove that he has trained on and that run will have brought him on nicely for this significantly tougher contest as well as giving him a first racecourse experience of all-weather racing.
This well bred individual looks capable of going on from there and should be backed to follow-up this afternoon.
