Sky Bet have slashed Wigan's relegation odds from 11/8 to 8/13 after they slumped to defeat on Saturday while fellow strugglers Norwich, Stoke and Sunderland all picked up maximum points.

The Latics' 2-0 defeat at West Ham sees them remain three points adrift of survival with Aston Villa, who travel to Manchester United on Monday night football, also cut for the drop, from 3/1 to 5/2.

Stoke are the main movers due to the poor state of their form heading into the weekend, going out from 9/2 to 16/1, while Sunderland (16/1 from 13/2) and Norwich (20/1 from 9/1) both also took significant steps towards safety.

Betting on Reading and QPR going down is now suspended with a victory for Villa at Old Trafford confirming their returns to the Championship, while the race for a top-four place has seen Tottenham eased out to 11/8 (from 5/4) after rivals Arsenal recorded a 1-0 win at Fulham.

Sky Bet's Chris Spicer said: "We're poised to pay out on Reading and QPR going down with both sides looking deflated as the drop looms, while the picture is looking clearer as to who will join them in the Championship next season.

"It appears to be a straight battle between Aston Villa and Wigan with 16th placed Newcastle, who remain 20/1 to go down after drawing 1-1 at West Brom, six points clear of the drop zone, but both sides have shown signs to indicate they could still drag those above them back into trouble."
