Our Scottish football expert Gareth Friel reckons Hibernian will edge Sunday's Edinburgh derby and also fancies Dundee.

With Leigh Griffiths in top form the Hibees have to be backed against their beleagured opponents on derby day.

And with John Brown having got Dundee going, they are taken to beat Inverness.

Scottish football lost regular Old Firm derby matches for the foreseeable future when Rangers were refused re-entry into the SPL last summer following liquidation - could it now be set to lose SPL Edinburgh derbies too?

Hearts may be taking legal advice over a news report that claimed staff had been told the club could go into administration but while that exact detail may or may not be true, there is no doubt the Tynecastle club are struggling. Officials and former boss John McGlynn have made that clear on a number of occasions.

Hearts face Hibs at Easter Road this weekend in what could be, depending on where both sides finish in the SPL, the last match between the two for a while.

Hibs' 1-0 Scottish Cup victory over their rivals in December may have been their first derby win in more than three years but it does make it three unbeaten against Hearts since the Scottish Cup final last May.

The Jambos got back to winning ways in midweek against St Johnstone but I still fancy Hibs for this one. Defensively they still look suspect and, up front, Michael Ngoo and John Sutton miss too many chances.

Hibs were impressive in victory against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup last weekend and Leigh Griffiths was once again the star man. If he plays like he did at Rugby Park, Hearts are in trouble.

Edinburgh derbies are generally close affairs, barring a few high-profile exceptions, and I don't think there will be much in this one. So instead of backing Hibs at shades of odds-against I'll go for the 10/3 on them to win by one goal.
