Last year's European javelin champion Mirela Manjani took the world title for Greece.

Runner-up two years ago, Manjani, who has only competed three times this year, produced a world-leading throw of 66.52 metres to regain the title she won four years ago.

Second to Manjani was Tatyana Shikolenko, the Russian having a best effort of 63.28m.Steffi Nerius from Germany took the bronze medal, throwing 62.70m.
