McCONNELL SEVENTH AS GUEVERA WINS
Scotland's Lee McConnell finished seventh in the 400m final as Ana Guevera took her expected gold medal.
However, the Briton believes
the experience of these World Championships will stand her in good stead for
next year's Olympics.
"It has been a brilliant experience," she said. "Two years ago I was lucky
enough to run in the 400m relay only because someone was injured, so running in
the final of the individual event here shows I have come a long way.
"I hope to take what I have learnt here to Athens and get up a couple of
places higher - I have learnt to run my own race and let the others run theirs,
and hopefully we'll meet in the home straight."
Mexican Guevera ran the fastest 400m time for seven years as she secured a comfortable win in 48.89.
Lorraine Fenton of Jamaica was second with defending champion Amy Mbacke Thiam taking bronze.
Guevera, a bronze medallist in Edmonton in 2001, is unbeaten in two seasons over the distance.
