Cuba's Yargelis Savigne took gold in the women's triple jump final with a leap of 15.28m.
"I am very satisfied," she said.
"This medal is a big surprise and very important for me and for Cuba. I always believed that I could jump more than 15 metres."
Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia took the silver medal with 15.07m while third went to Hrysopiyi Devetzi of Greece (15.04m).
In the other women's field event final of the night, Barbora Spotakova of the Czech republic struck gold in the javelin with a throw of 67.07m from German duo of Christina Obergfoll (66.46m) and Steffi Nerius (64.42m).
A delighted Spotokova said afterwards: "I wanted to do it with the first throw, that is always my aim.
"And I did it, I shocked the others. I always concentrate on the first throw. My goal was to win and better the national record, I set it at the beginning of the year. I was waiting on that for the whole year."
