BRITISH QUARTET MISS OUT
Great Britain missed out on a medal in the final event of the World Championships, the men's 4x400m relay.
The team of Tim Benjamin, Martin Rooney, Robert Tobin and Malachi Davis could finish only fourth, despite setting the fastest time by a British quartet for seven years - 2mins 58.82secs.
As expected, the USA took gold with individual champion Jeremy Wariner bringing home the baton.
The Bahamas finished second with Jamaica always doing just enough to see off the British challenge.
Benjamin said: "It was a very fast race and we are just very unfortunate.
"I felt a bit tired in the warm-up but ran a good race. But we have a very
young team and we will go on to win a medal I'm sure.
"I've got 10 years in front of me in the sport."
Davis, who tried desperately to overhaul the Jamaican quartet in third, said:
"I was happy to be the anchor.
"It was not enough today - it just didn't work out. It is disappointing but
we ran a good race.
"It is an improvement on Athens and we are still a young team and if we can
continue to grow medals will come."
