Ukraine's Yuriy Krymarenko sprang a surprise by winning the world high jump title in Helsinki.
The youngster, who finished only third at the recent European Under-23 Championships, was the only athlete to clear 2.32m in the Olympic Stadium.
The height was the lowest to win the gold medal in World Championship history.
Russian Yaroslav Rybakov and Victor Moya of Cuba, who both jumped 2.29m, could not be separated in second place so two silver medals were awarded and no bronze.
