RELAY SHOCKS AS DUO CRASH OUT
There were two big surprises in the women's 4x100m relay heats on Friday evening.
Both the Bahamas and Russia, two of the title favourites, missed out on a place in the final.
In the first heat, the Bahamas crashed out when Chandra Sturrup stumbled to the ground while trying to set off on leg two.
And in the third and final heat, Russia fumbled the baton on the final change and failed to finish.
Unlike in the men's event, the USA had no such problems, qualifying fastest for Saturday's final with a time of 42.16 seconds.
They will now be hot favourites to take gold.
The British quartet of Emily Freeman, Emma Ania, Laura Turner and
Katherine Endacott finished fourth in heat one in 43.83 - not good enough to make the final.
