McILROY MISSES OUT
James McIlroy ran a season's best in the 800m but it was not enough to get the Ulsterman through to Sunday's World Championship final.
McIlroy was second after 200m but gradually dropped back through the field
and, despite a battling performance down the home straight, finished seventh in
1:45.91s.
"It was not good," McIlroy admitted. "I felt a wee bit tired from yesterday
but everybody was in the same boat. I came through at the end but find the third
200m is the hardest. Maybe I lose concentration.
"Ideally you want to make finals and not semis but the bottom line is you
have to run at least 1:44 in this competition. There is no room for manoeuvre
because I'm a 1:45 man."
Russia's Olympic champion Yuriy Borzakovksiy was the fastest qualifier.
