Sebrle - set world record this season (Allsport).

ROMAN SEBRLE (CZE)

(decathlon)

Decathlete Roman Sebrle announced he will be the man to beat at the World Championships back in May.

For that was when the Czech made history, becoming the first man to break the magical 9,000-point barrier.

His mark of 9,026 took the event to new levels and with competition in the event stiff, it could take another record to take gold in the Commonwealth Stadium.

With the likes of compatriot and defending champion Tomas Dvorak, American Chris Huffins and Olympic champion Erki Nool, the event looks like being a tight affair, much akin to the one which occurred in Sydney last year.

This is the chance for Sebrle, the silver medallist Down Under, to add his name to the list of Decathlon greats which includes Briton Daley Thompson, Dan O'Brien and Dvorak.
