Devers - three-time champion (Allsport).
GAIL DEVERS (USA)
(100m hurdles)
Gail Devers arrives in Edmonton looking to make it four World titles in the 100m hurdles.
It seems a long time since the American won the first of those gold medals in Stuttgart when she edged out Russian Marina Azyabina.
Further titles followed in Gothenburg in 1995 and Seville two years ago when Devers seemed at the peak of her powers, winning in 12.37.
It is Devers' awesome flat speed which has helped her over the hurdles as she is not regarded as one of the great technicians.
Her sprinting pace was proven in the 1990s when Devers won the Olympic titles in 1992 and 1996 over 100m. She also doubled up at the 1993 World Championships.
However, her hurdles prowess was never transferred to Olympic level - she famously crashed out of the final in Barcelona.
This season Devers is back for more glory.
She won the US Championships held in Oregon in 12.91 to prove she will be a serious contender once again.
