Romanian 5,000m specialist Gabriela Szabo took gold in the 1,500m with a season's best time of 4:00.57.

Szabo held off the challenge of her fellow countrywoman and world leader this year, Violeta Szekely, who took a silver to go with the one she won at the Sydney Olympics.

The decision for Szabo now, is whether to run in the 5,000m, or carry out her threat to boycott the race if Olga Yegorova is allowed to compete.

Russian Yegorova may yet be banned from competing following allegations of drug taking earlier this season.
