Rawlinson - should make the final (Allsport)
HUTCHINGS ON THE MEN'S 400m HURDLES
By Tim Hutchings
In the 400m hurdles, Angelo Taylor is the Olympic champion, is only 22 years old and is the fastest in the world this year.
But at Crystal Palace recently, Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic equalled his best time of 48.95 and beat Taylor in the procrss.
Taylor's trump card is that he's so fast on the flat with 44.68 this season and none of the others can get anywhere near that.
Stephane Diagana has also been in great form this year and the French former world champion has run 48.08.
Marke Plawgo of Poland, the early season No1, but his recent form has been abysmal.
Look out for Fabrizio Mori. He has run 48.3 this year and has a reputation for getting it right on the big occasion.
There's also of Hadi Soua'an Al-Somaily of Saudi Arabia who might also be watched but I think it's going to be between Taylor and Sanchez with Taylor perhaps having a good lesson taught to him at Crystal Palace and unlikely to get it wrong again.
For Britain, it's Chris Rawlinson who leads a strong group of four or five athletes, who have broken 50 seconds this year.
He should make the final having won the AAA championship a few weeks ago and he is in good form but I don't think he'll get among the medals.
