HUTCHINGS ON THE MEN'S 5000m
In the 5,000m we will obviously be mentioning the Kenyans but an Ethiopian Hailu Mekonnen of Ethiopia is the faest in the world this year.
He ran 12min 58 in Rome several weeks ago but only a handful of men have broken 13 minutes this season, the benchmark for real stardom.
Sammi Kipketer was second in the Kenyan championship but is second fastest in the world this year while Kenyan champion Richard Limo has not broken 13 minutes this year.
John Kibowen is the third Kenyan and has run 13 min 02.69 this season but this race is sure to be a dust-up between the Africans once again.
But don't forget Million Wolde the Olympic champion at this event.
He is only 11th fastest in the world this year but is in the Ethiopian squad but could be a real threat in a slowly-run race.
For the Europeans, indeed the rest of the world, probably the best bet is the Alberto Garcia, the very small but strong Spaniard who ran 13.02 in Rome but had a big win in July in Stockholm and could be dangerous ia slow race.
Don't forget it was a very slow race in Sydney. The final was won in 13.35, almost pedestrian by international standards.
Garcia in that sort of situation could beat them all.
