We've all seen the rhythm devices runners use to keep themselves up with a certain pace right?
Well, the athletes in the men's 5000m had a different type of accompaniment in their heats.
Perhaps learning from the musical band that follows the England football team everywhere it goes, stadium organisers laid on a drum combo to help the runners on their way.
One can only assume the drummers were of African origin though, as they continually upped then slowed the pace.

For the record, Brazil's Adria Rocha Santos won the 200m for women in a time of 25.76, while the closely-contested men's 100m went to Italy's Lorenzo Ricci in 11.71.
