Chambers - challenging Greene's dominance (Allsport).

DWAIN CHAMBERS

(100m/200m/4x100m relay)

Coached by the former Commonwealth 200m champion Mike McFarlane, Dwain Chambers will remember the World Championships fondly.

For it was in Seville in 1999 where Chambers sprinted to the 100m bronze medal in a personal best time of 9.97 seconds before picking up a silver in the 4x100m relay.

A few months earlier, Chambers had become only the second European to break the ten-second barrier, the other, of course, being his idol Linford Christie.

Last season ended in disappointment for the 23-year-old as he was pushed into fourth place at the Olympics where champion Maurice Greene gained revenge for a rare defeat at Gateshead just a few weeks previous.

Currently the cream of a highly-impressive crop of British sprinters, Chambers still has plenty of time to win a major championship, but he would love to do so here and end Greene's world domination.

So far this season, Chambers has posted some impressive times. He won the Grand Prix meeting back in Seville in 10.01 and knocked that down to 10 seconds dead when finishing third to Greene in a fast race in Lausanne.

In his final 100m race before the championships – at Crystal Palace – Chambers was again beaten by Greene but less than an hour later he surged to victory in a new personal best in the 200m, a performance which saw him also selected for that event for Edmonton.
