Steffi Nerius won gold in the women's javelin on Sunday as Briton Goldie Sayers finished 12th.
Throwing in tricky wet conditions, Sayers managed only 54.70m and missed the cut for the final three throws.
Nerius, meanwhile, launched the spear out to 65.82 in round four to overtake early leader Barbara Spotakova, who had to settle for silver with 65.64.
Spain's Mercedes Chilla (61.98) grabbed the bronze by just 9cm.
In the men's pole vault, Alex Averbukh needed just two vaults to retain his title.
He clinched Israel's only medal of the week by clearing 5.70m in Gothenburg.
Four athletes went over at 5.65, but it was Tim Lobinger and Romain Mesnil who took silver and bronze respectively on countback.
The final field event of the championships - the women's long jump - was won by Russia's Lyudmila Kolchanova.
Her winning distance was 6.93m - 9casm further than Portugal's Naide Gomes.
Another Russian, Oksana Udmurtova, took the bronze medal with home favourite Carolina Kluft unable to add to her heptathlon gold.
Hindered by a fall in the earlier 4x100m relay, she finished down in sixth place with a best leap of 6.54.
