The men's side comfortably won their heat in 3mins 02.51secs to progress as the fastest qualifiers.
Robert Tobin, Rhys Williams, Graham Hedman and Tim Benjamin will be looking to keep Britain's grip of the title - one they have held since 1986.
However, they are likely to face a stern test from the Russians who rested their major men as they finished second in Britain's heat.
Ireland's Paul McKee, Brian Doyle, David Gillick and David McCarthy clocked 3:04.59 to make the cut as fastest losers.
The British women's team of Jenny Meadows, Emma Duck, Marilyn Okoro and Lee McConnell also won their qualifier.
Their time of 3:27.92 was the third fastest overall, although they have individual finalist Nicola Sanders to add to their line-up on Sunday.
