Belgium's Tia Hellebaut silenced the home crowd to claim an unlikely gold in the high jump.
It caused heartache for the Swedish fans who saw their reigning European champion Kajsa Bergqvist only take the bronze.
Hellebaut cleared the 2.03 metre mark to set a new national and championship record but had to rely on countback to pip Venelina Veneva.
The Bulgarian managed to jump the same height but had to settle for the silver due to suffering more previous failures.
While Bergqvist's best of 2.01 was matched by Blanka Vlasic, the Swede could at least finish on the podium due to the same ruling.
